A native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mr. McMillan earned his undergraduate degree in history from a college in Virginia before returning home to attend the University of Tennessee College of Law. He began his legal career in Chattanooga, representing thousands of disabled individuals in Social Security disability cases at Dale Buchanan & Associates, where he developed a deep commitment to compassionate advocacy.
In 2019, Mr. McMillan joined Greg Coleman Law – and later, the international law firm, Milberg – where he expanded his practice to include high-stakes class action litigation involving dangerous and defective products, automotive defects, contractual disputes, and ERISA matters. His work in these cases reflects a focus on accountability and systemic reform on behalf of injured consumers and employees.
In 2025, Ryan joined Coleman Law PLLC as a Partner, where he continues his work in class litigation and arbitrations while advancing the firm’s mission of principled, results-driven advocacy.
Throughout his career, Mr. McMillan has received several legal accolades, including recognition as a Finalist for Public Justice’s Trial Lawyer of the Year (2024). During his time at UT College of Law, he received the Patrick L. Hardin Award for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law (2010).
He is passionate about pro bono service within his community. Since 2020, Mr. McMillan has represented clients in conservatorship matters across East Tennessee, contributing to his firm’s recognition by Legal Aid of East Tennessee as Pro Bono Firm of the Year (2022).
He is admitted to practice in the state of Tennessee, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
Mr. McMillan resides in Alcoa, Tennessee, with his wife, Rachel, and their three children, Oliver, Miles, and Maeve. Outside of his legal practice, he is an avid cook and video game enthusiast who enjoys spending time with his family in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
